المعنى الاصطلاحي :


Walking all the way around the Ka‘bah seven times, with the intention of worship, starting from the Black Stone and finishing there.

الشرح المختصر :


"Tawāf" (circumambulation) is one of the pillars of Hajj and ‘Umrah. It is to go around the Ka‘bah seven times, starting at the Black Stone and ending there. The pilgrim should keep the Ka‘bah on his left side while doing circumambulation. There are three types of "Tawāf": 1. "Tawāf al-Qudoom": It is the arrival "tawāf" that the pilgrim from outside Makkah makes when he enters “Al-Masjid al-Harām". 2. "Tawāf al-Ifādah": It is the "tawāf" made in Hajj after throwing pebbles at "Jamarat al-‘Aqabah". 3. "Tawāf al-Wadā‘": It is the farewell "tawāf" made before departing Makkah. It is obligatory to other than a menstruating woman and a woman in post-partum period. In ‘Umra the circumambulation is only once. It is recommended for other than a pilgrim to circumambulate at any time of the day or the night.
