Charity (صَدَقَةٌ)
أصول الفقه
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
The donation that a person gives from his own wealth as an act of worship and in pursuit of reward from Allah.
الشرح المختصر :
"Sadaqah" (charity) is what a person gives to the poor in pursuit of Allah's reward, not as a mere act of generosity, thus excluding gifts and grants which are given to win friendship or affection. In principle, the term "sadaqah" denotes voluntary charity, while Zakah denotes obligatory charity. Scholars also said that the obligatory charity is called "sadaqah" when its giver is "sādiq" (sincere) in his intention. "Sadaqah" is a sign of the sound faith of its giver and his true belief.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Sadaqah": charity. Derived from "sadq", which means strength and rigidity.
