أعمال القلوب
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no contagion, nor is there any evil omen in birds, nor is there any evil omen in the owl, nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar” [Al-Bukhāri and Muslim]. The narration of Muslim has the following addition: "nor is there any omen in the moon phase, nor is there any ghoul.”
The pre-Islamic era was replete with unfounded superstitions and illusions. Islam aimed at protecting its followers from the evils of such falsehood. Therefore, it negated the beliefs of the polytheists regarding the things mentioned in the Hadīth. Islam denied the existence of some of them altogether such as the belief in evil omens, and denied the effect of some others. That is because no one brings about good save Allah, and no one wards off evil save Him.
