A book in which a hadith scholar lists the names of his teachers and the hadith books he learnt from them, outlining his chain of transmission up to the authors of such books. It is also called thabt, fihris / fihrist, barnāmaj and muꜤjam al-shuyūkh, which respectively mean: record, index, programme and glossary of teachers.
