المعنى الاصطلاحي :
A right that one is personally liable for fulfilling.
الشرح المختصر :
"Dayn" (debt) is a contract of liability that guarantees the rights that a legally responsible person owes to another, such as financial rights incurred by a loan, a sale transaction, rent, causing damage, committing a crime, etc. It also includes non-financial rights, such as missed prayers, zakah, fasting, etc. A "dayn" is related to the debtor's "dhimmah"; i.e. his personal responsibility as someone eligible for "offer and acceptance" in transactions.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر :
"Dayn": debt. It is derived from "daana", which means to borrow. Original meaning: submission, humiliation. A debt was called "dayn" due to the humiliation it involves, or because its settlement is delayed to a future date. Other meanings: delay.
